Top 5 Branded Videos of the Week: Coffeezilla lawsuit, demonic asylums, and the last great Trump/Biden debate (kinda)

Welcome to our rundown of the most-watched branded YouTube videos of the week.

We’re publishing this snippet of a larger Gospel Stats Weekly Brand Report in order to analyze sponsorship trends in the creator economy. Any video launched in tandem with an official brand partner is eligible for the ranking.

And – as the name up above would imply – all the data comes from Gospel Stats. If you’re interested in learning more about Gospel – and which brands are sponsoring what creators on YouTube – click here.

There’s demons everywhere in this week’s Gospel Stats Weekly Brand Report, and by that we mean there’s Sam and Colby locked in a haunted asylum (that may or may not have a demon in it), but there’s also working out (ugh) and some truly incredible The Mask-level makeup jobs in the latest episode of Kill Tony, where faux Trump and Biden battle it out in the presidential debate that never will be. On top of that we’ve got a lawyer’s dissection of the Logan Paul vs. Coffeezilla lawsuit, plus a guy who’s just trying to make some eBay cash.

See all the videos here:

#1 KT #672 – TOP SECRET
Channel: Kill Tony
Brand: ExpressVPN
Views: 14,379,087

Now that Kamala Harris is officially on the ticket, we’re (hopefully) never going to see another Donald TrumpJoe Biden debate. But we get a glimpse of the future that could have been in the latest episode of Kill Tony, a live-filmed comedy podcast hosted by Tony Hinchcliffe and Brian Redban. Featuring Shane Gillis as Trump and Adam Ray as Biden, it’s an SNL-esque look at what we could’ve been in for if Biden had stayed in the presidential running. We’re not too surprised this two-and-a-half-hour podcast is #1 on this week’s list. Podcasts have dominated in past weeks, especially in the sports niche, and as more and more podcasters lean into video episodes, we expect to see episodes continue popping off. And, since podcasts are so heavily sponsored, we also expect to see them keep popping up on our list. Kill Tony is sponsored by ExpressVPN, which also sponsored 10 other videos this week.

#2 My Scariest Experience in Demonic Asylum (Trapped Alone)
Channel: Sam and Colby
Brand: Rocket Money
Views: 5,174,239

If you missed the chance to see Sam and Colby in theaters–part of a growing trend where creators are getting their stuff into Hollywood venues–you can still catch plenty cinematic shenanigans on their YouTube channel, like this video where they visit Australia’s Beechworth Insane Asylum and do their best to draw out the demons within. As part of the demon-baiting, they wrap up in straitjackets to experience what patients would’ve endured, and we won’t spoil what happens, but we think it’s pretty safe to say the title is in fact not clickbait. Their encounter is sponsored by Rocket Money, a frequent creator collaborator who paid for 24 other videos this week.

#3 We Need to Rethink Exercise – The Workout Paradox
Channel: Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell
Brand: Brilliant

No one likes working out. Okay, some people do, but we’re not counting them because it’s unnatural. What isn’t unnatural is our bodies–which, according to Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell, are fighting us every step of the way as we try to lose weight. Like many other Kurzgesagt videos, this one is based in the laws of thermodynamics, specifically how our bodies are big machines that want to turn raw materials (tasty food) into stuff that keeps us alive, including fat. So if you’re not feeling so great about your exercise progress, you might want to restrategize how you think about it, and get physics involved. This deep dive is sponsored by Kurzgesagt’s usual brand partner, STEM education company Brilliant.

#4 Logan Paul sued Coffeezilla and it’s Crap (ft. Coffezilla’s Lawyers)
Channel: LegalEagle
Brand: Factor
Views: 4,240,912

Yeah, so this lawsuit is happening. For our comprehensive look at what’s going on between the eldest Paul brother and internet detective Coffeezilla, you can go here, but the tl;dr is that Coffeezilla posted several videos investigating what happened to Paul’s CryptoZoo crypto/NFT/game project, and Paul (despite thanking Coffeezilla for his commentary in the past) is now suing him for defamation. As usual, creator economy-savvy lawyer LegalEagle doesn’t hold back, deeming Paul’s lawsuit “crap” and saying that by suing Coffeezilla, he’s catapulted himself into an era of Streisand effect. This video is doubly interesting because it features a guest appearance from Mark Bankston and Bill Ogden, who were responsible for the successful $50 million Sandy Hook lawsuit against Alex Jones. They’re also now Coffeezilla’s lawyers. Good luck, Logan. (Oh, and this is sponsored by meal kit company Factor, which also back almost 50 other videos this week.)

BONUS #1,722 I Lost my job so I flipped stuff online: Month 5 Part 2
Channel: Analog Money Project
Brand: BetterHelp
Views: 30,237

We’ve been following Analog Money Project for a while now. It’s just one guy who lost his job deciding to go all-in on flipping and on YouTube after losing his job. Over the last five months, he’s taken viewers through the highs and lows of eBay selling, shown every profitable, non-profitable, and just plain annoying flip (you ever tried to offload dozens of door locks?), and even explored whether uploading on YouTube is causing issues with his eBay store, because he’s seen a noticeable downturn in sales after posting new videos. His channel is still in its early days, and we think it’s cool to see a creator be actively in the process of upgrading their filming equipment and trying to figure this whole industry out from the ground up, documenting it all the while. His video is sponsored by the contentious BetterHelp, and so were 44 other uploads this week.

…and there’s a lot more data where that came from. If you’re interested in learning more about Gospel – and which brands are sponsoring what creators on YouTube – click here.
