A man has unveiled a potentially unseen perspective of the 9/11 attacks, sharing the footage online for the first time in nearly two decades.

Uploaded to YouTube on July 23 by Kei Sugimoto, the video emerges just shy of the 23rd anniversary of the harrowing events in New York. Sugimoto claims he captured the chilling scenes from the rooftop of 64 St Marks Place using a Sony VX2000 with a teleconverter, offering what some believe to be a completely new viewpoint.

The recording starts post-impact, with the Twin Towers engulfed in smoke and flames as the sound of alarmed spectators fills the air. About 45 seconds into the six-minute clip, the North Tower succumbs, eliciting shock from those watching. Five minutes later, the South Tower follows, unleashing a maelstrom of smoke, dust, and debris.

The footage by Sugimoto extends another half minute, pulling back to reveal the catastrophic damage inflicted as dense smoke billows upwards. Since its release, the video has gone viral, quickly racking up over 630,000 views on YouTube within four days and circulating on X, where viewers have suggested it might be “a unique perspective” on the calamity.

A comment on X reads: “This footage offers a unique perspective not seen from the south or east. You are watching these angles for the first time ever.” Reddit users have been chiming in on the topic, with one user commenting: “It’s crazy that we’re almost 23 years out and still getting new footage.”

The September 11 attacks, which were four coordinated Islamist terrorist suicide attacks carried out by al-Qaeda, resulted in a staggering death toll of 2,977 victims, marking it as the deadliest terrorist attack in human history. The first strike was on the North Tower at 8:46 am, followed by the South Tower at 9:03 am, both towers succumbing to collapse within an hour and 41 minutes.

At 9:37 am, another plane targeted the Pentagon, leading to a partial collapse, while the final plane met its end in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, at 10:03 am after heroic passengers confronted the hijackers, thwarting their plan to hit Washington DC.
