Morristown Disciplines Employee For Divisive Trump Facebook Post

MORRISTOWN, NJ — A Morristown employee’s social media post after the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump sparked an outcry, and town officials said she faces “disciplinary action.”

The Facebook post on Building Department employee Tia Ellzey’s personal page read “The shooter had ONE job” and included an eye-rolling emoji, as first reported by the Morris Focus.

Town administrator Jillian Barrick said the post “was reckless and needlessly divisive, adding that “it absolutely does not reflect the views of our municipal government.”

“Political violence like the attempted assassination of former President Trump goes against the bedrock principles of our American democracy and it should never be tolerated or condoned by anyone, much less a public employee who is tasked with representing the values of our community,” she said in a statement.

Officials took “immediate disciplinary action to make it clear that this kind of conduct is not acceptable” as soon as they became aware of the post, Barrick said.

“Because this is a personnel matter we are unable to comment further, but I want residents to rest assured that we take this issue seriously.”
