EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio (WKBN) — The East Liverpool Police Department is warning Facebook users that the recent post popping up across various talk groups stating that a child is missing is a scam.

According to police, a post has been circulating around East Liverpool and Calcutta Facebook talk groups stating that there is a missing child from the Calcutta East area.

Authorities say numerous calls have been made to the dispatch center regarding the post, but state neither the East Liverpool nor St. Clair Township police departments have any missing juveniles.

“As a reminder to protect your internet safety, please refrain from clicking any suspicious internet links on or off Facebook,” the East Liverpool Police Department warned in a statement.

The fraudulent post claims a 15-year-old girl is missing, and even includes pictures of a girl who looks to be around that age. In a call-to-action, the post urges Facebook users to “spare some time & join us to help organize a community-wide search,” for the girl.
