Belmopan Resident Sentenced for Facebook Marketplace Fraud

Tyler Malcolm, a resident of Bladen Street in Belmopan has made his life even more complicated after he jilted a businessman on Facebook Marketplace over an IPhone 14 ProMax.  Malcolm listed the phone for sale for two thousand dollars and caught the attention of YoungBo Tan who transferred one thousand dollars as a deposit for the phone.  The deposit was made in late June last year, but charges were not levied until September when the DPP issued her directives.  Malcolm was charged with obtaining property be deception for which he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three months in jail.  The three months are to be added to a six month sentence that he is currently serving.  The incident with Tan is one of two that Malcolm got caught up in.  Last year, he also jilted one Denise Gabourel out of four hundred and fifty dollars, hence the two counts of obtaining property by deception.   Malcolm appeared unrepresented in court and wasted no time in pleading guilty to both counts.  The offence carries jail time of up to ten years but considering that the matter was dealt with summarily in the lower court, he was sentenced to two to three months in prison.  Malcolm’s earliest release date from prison is October 25, 2024.
