Yellowstone National Park facebook: A shooting occurred Thursday morning at Yellowstone National Park in Canyon Village, Wyoming, killing one person and injuring a park ranger, park officials said.

According to a news release from Yellowstone National Park, the episode began overnight and ended Thursday morning. Rangers reacted to a complaint of a person brandishing a pistol and making threats at Canyon Village, located south of Tower Falls in the park’s core area.

Rangers engaged the individual and exchanged shots. The person has died. No one’s identify was revealed.

A Yellowstone law enforcement park ranger sustained injuries. The ranger, whose identity has not been revealed, was in stable condition in a hospital.

The FBI is leading the inquiry, with assistance from National Park Service special agents. The area surrounding the Canyon Lodge complex remained blocked as part of the investigation.

Park officials stated that there are no active threats to the public, and no other information was available.

Todd Heskett said he was staying at the Canyon Village hotel with his wife and two daughters, aged 14 and 22, when he heard gunshots from the Canyon Lodge restaurant at 8 a.m.

He claimed he contacted 911 and the front desk and was advised there was an active shooter situation and to remain in his room.

The Canyon Lodge’s eatery, visitor center, and general store were all closed, according to Heskett.

About an hour later, Heskett said, he received an emergency alert on his phone alerting him that the crisis had been resolved and that it was safe to leave.
