GUWAHATI: A young photographer in his late twenties, identified as Mrinmay Talukdar, ended his life while live-streaming the entire event on Facebook in the Bhaskar Nagar area of the city on Saturday. Hailing from Tihu in lower Assam, Talukdar resided in a rented house in the city.

Geetanagar police station was alerted about the incident around 6 pm on Saturday. Upon arriving at the scene, the police discovered the body suspended from the ceiling fan.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the youth might have been grappling with depression, which could have driven him to take this extreme step. The body was kept in the morgue of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital overnight, with the post-mortem examination scheduled for Sunday morning. Further details are expected to be unveiled following the autopsy. The deceased was estimated to be around 27-28 years old, according to an official source.

Talukdar did not leave any note prior to taking his own life, the police added.

Bhaskar Kalita, a relative of the deceased, informed TOI that Talukdar, who had arrived in Guwahati from his hometown on Saturday morning, began live-streaming the event on Facebook around 3 pm that day.

“I continued watching the video 10 minutes after it started. He seemed fine yesterday, and we had no indication that he was unwell. He had even purchased a new phone the previous day. The reason behind his actions remains a mystery to us. He is survived by his brother, sister-in-law and nieces, as he had lost his parents at a very young age.”
