ARBY’S is closing a location in California, according to an announcement on Facebook.
The property owners have said they are looking for a new, “exciting” offering to replace the fast food chain.
Arby’s shut its location on Edwards Air Force Base on Friday, June 7.
The location is in the California desert, in the commissary of the US Military base.
Now, the base’s food court has a hole.
There are plans to fill that hole, though it’s not clear what will take Arby’s place.
ONLINE ANNOUNCEMENT
Fans learned of the Arby’s closure via a Facebook post.
Edwards AFB Exchange, which runs the food court posted about the closure on June 2.
“We are looking forward to housing a new, exciting food option for this space,” they said.
“In the meantime, please enjoy the Exchange’s other Food Court options, Taco Bell, Popeyes, and Charleys.”
The post received several “sad” and “angry” reactions.
NOW WHAT?
Exchange did not reveal when a replacement vendor would be announced.
Loyal Arby’s fans will have to travel off the base to get the chain’s classic meats.
The next closest spot is Palmdale, about 40 minutes away by car.
To the north, there’s an Arby’s location in Ridgecrest.
That’s a roughly 1 hour and 15 minute drive from the base.
Restaurant closures in 2024
BOSSES at major dining chains have announced a series of restaurant closures. The U.S. Sun has compiled a list of the chain’s affected.

- Chili’s: A restaurant in Port Arthur, Texas, has shut permanently.
- Friendly’s: Bosses confirmed an establishment in Ronkonkoma, Long Island will close.
- Pizza Hut: A restaurant in Glen Falls, New York, closed at the end of March.
- Denny’s: Two restaurants in Boise and Nampa, Idaho, have closed.
- Carl’s Jr.: The first Boise, Idaho location has closed.

The Edwards location is not the only Arby’s that has shut its doors for good.
A Pennsylvania Arby’s recently closed down, leaving a sign on the door to thank customers.
“Thank you for all the years we had together…hope to see you all soon,” the sign said.
Some locals were less than torn up about the shutdown.
“Meh, they had the worst customer service at that location anyway,” one wrote online.
Arby’s closed 39 locations last year.
