ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1100 Hints, Clues And Answer For Sunday, June 23rd

Monday is back, and we’re in the final stretches of June. Some clouds have arrived here in the mountains—rainclouds, hopefully generous ones and not too lightning-filled—and that means somewhat cooler weather, which is a blessing. I’m praying for monsoons before any really serious wildfires break out, though I haven’t taken drastic measures yet (like placing expensive electronics in the yard to tempt the rain gods).

For now, let’s do this Wordle!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: Useful for movers and camera operators.

The Clue: This Wordle has a double letter.

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

Can you solve today’s phrase?

My opening guess was inspired by Amazon’s The Boys and the superhero Black Noire. It did okay, though not great, leaving me with 131 remaining possible solutions and one green ‘O’. I decided to go with all new letters for guess #2 and guessed QUADS, inspired by playing Warzone with my friends. You can play Solos, Duos, Trios or Quads in that game.

This slashed my remaining choices down to 7, though I didn’t know that at the time. I could think of a few possible answers: DOLLY, GODLY, and GOLLY. I figured I’d try GODLY but that wasn’t right. Still, it did make it pretty obvious what the final answer would be: DOLLY for the win!

Competitive Wordle Score

I ran the numbers on the Wordle Bot’s guesses and here’s what I came up with: It started with CRANE and got zero boxes correct. Then it guessed SLOTH and nabbed a yellow ‘L’ and a yellow ‘O’. At this point, I estimate the Bot had 15 words to choose from (or around 15) and somehow—miraculously—guessed DOLLY for the win, beating me by one. That’s a little sus if you ask me.

In any case, I get 0 for guessing in four and lose a point for losing to the Bot (who may or may not be cheating, just sayin’). -1 total. Lame.

How To Play Competitive Wordle

Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.

If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “dolly” has a few different uses and etymologies, depending on the context in which it is used. Here are the primary ones:

Toy Doll:

  • The term “dolly” as a diminutive form of “doll” dates back to the early 17th century. The word “doll” itself is believed to be a shortened form of the name Dorothy, which was a common pet name for a child’s toy.

Film and Photography Equipment:

  • In the context of film and photography, a “dolly” is a wheeled cart or similar device used to create smooth horizontal camera movements. This use of the term dates to the early 20th century and is likely derived from the general use of “dolly” to refer to a small wheeled platform or truck, which itself may come from the toy sense of “dolly,” indicating something small and movable.

Hand Truck/Cart:

  • A “dolly” in the context of moving heavy objects refers to a small platform on wheels. This usage, dating from the late 19th century, is likely derived from the same diminutive and playful connotation as the toy “dolly,” emphasizing its small size and maneuverability.

In all these cases, the underlying theme is the small, manageable size of the object, whether it’s a toy, a piece of film equipment, or a moving platform.
