Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

I got my opening word today from the Strands word puzzle game so that’s a clue for any Strands players out there. From here, I tried to rearrange my letters with BATCH and moved SCALE’s ‘A’ into green. The ‘C’ remained yellow until my third guess, CANDY, which also snagged me a green ‘N’. Only one possible word remained at this point: CANON for the win!

Competitive Wordle Score

I get 0 points for guessing in four and lose 1 point because the Bot solved this one in just three. Lame.

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “canon” has its origins in the Greek word “κανών” (kanon), meaning “rule” or “measuring rod.” This term was used to denote a standard or criterion by which something is judged. It was adopted into Latin as “canon,” retaining a similar meaning.

In various contexts, “canon” has come to denote:

  1. Religious Context: In Christianity, it refers to the official list of books considered authoritative scripture (the biblical canon) and ecclesiastical laws (canon law).
  2. Literary and Artistic Context: It refers to a body of works considered to be authoritative, important, and worthy of study and preservation. For example, the Shakespearean canon includes the complete works of William Shakespeare.
  3. Popular Culture: In modern times, particularly in the context of fictional universes (like in TV shows, books, and movies), “canon” refers to the material accepted as officially part of the story’s universe, as opposed to fan fiction or other unofficial adaptations.

The core idea of “canon” across all these uses remains a set of rules or standards that define what is genuine or authentic within a particular domain.
