Today’s “Wordle” #1,119 Hints and Answer for Friday, July 12 Puzzle

Another day means another Wordle puzzle to crack. And if this is your first time giving the popular game a try, Newsweek has all of the information to get you started.

Years after coming up with the initial concept, New York-based engineer Josh Wardle perfected Wordle during the COVID-19 lockdowns. It was then released to the public in October 2021.

Following its public debut, the word-based puzzle exploded from 90 users on November 1, 2021, to 300,000 on January 2, 2022. The New York Times purchased the game for an undisclosed seven-figure fee soon after.

The rules of Wordle are simple. Players need to work out a mystery five-letter word in six guesses or fewer, and a color-coded tile system lets you know if you’re on the right track.

A green tile means the letter is correct, while yellow tells you that the letter appears in the word but is just in the wrong spot. A gray tile shows that letter does not appear in the word at all.

Wordle aficionados aim to guess the day’s word in as few tries as possible, and play every day to continue their winning streak.

During a previous conversation with Newsweek, Wardle was hesitant to give away any strategies or tips for solving the puzzle.

“I think with this sort of game, part of the joy is discovering those things for yourself, right?” he said.

“So I’m reluctant to tell anybody how they should play. I would encourage people to experiment with different ideas and to find their own [starting] words, rather than just sticking to the same proven tactics over and over again.”

The answer to Friday’s puzzle will be revealed at the end of this article, so scroll down with caution if you want to work it out for yourself.
