Today’s ‘Wordle’ #1,125 Hints, Tips and Answer, Thursday, July 18 Game

It’s been more than two years since Wordle first became an online sensation, but the word puzzle game is still hugely popular.

Since Wordle was purchased by The New York Times in January 2022 from its creator—just four months after it launched—Brooklyn-based software engineer Josh Wardle, the daily brainteasers have become the outlet’s most popular word puzzle game.

However, Wardle never intended for the game to become a global phenomenon. The developer designed Wordle as a couple’s activity to play with his crossword-loving partner during lockdown.

Still, despite creating the game and curating its original bank of 2,315 words, Wardle claims he’s not the best player and is reluctant to offer advice to fans.

“[My partner] and I play it on the couch together each morning. She will consistently get it in three goes, which is way, way better than I can ever hope to achieve. I normally need at least four or five attempts,” he told Newsweek in January 2022.

“When I designed the game, it was for me and my partner to enjoy, so I made sure that all of the entries were randomized. In other words, I don’t actually know what tomorrow’s word is going to be, which means that I can take part like everybody else.”

Just because Wordle is popular, doesn’t mean the game is easy. However, Wardle believes the five-letter, six-guess format is crucial to Wordle’s success, as it keeps players guessing, but is not so tough that they get bored.

“I figured out that five letters and six tries was the ideal sweet spot,” he said.

“It’s just limited enough to feel challenging and to make you think, but most of the time people still manage to solve it. So, you feel a real sense of real accomplishment.”
